The MCGP Programme is a postgraduate training programme in General Practice/Family Medicine especially designed for the primary care doctors in Sri Lanka to guide them to become a qualified family doctor/ GP.

 
The successful completion of the MCGP programme and the examination is a mandatory to become a member of the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka.

Highlights of the Programme

  • 2-year course
  • Suitable for both part-time and full-time doctors engaged in family practice
  • Lecture-discussions: Alternate Sundays 9.00am – 4.00pm (face-to-face & online)
  • Clinicals and practicals: can be arranged in your area upon availability of the requirements
  • General Practice: Improving the quality of care with guidance

Eligibility Criteria/Prerequisites for entry to the Program

  • Medical Degree registered under Section 29 with SLMC
  • Two years or more of work experience in General Practice / Primary Care

What will the MCGP Programme offer you?

  • MCGP Qualification – an SLMC recognised, registrable postgraduate qualification with a credit score of Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF) level 9
  • Eligibility for the membership of the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka after successfully completing the course
  • Flexible enrolment criteria: MCGP Programme does not have a selection examination. You are only expected to engage in primary care within last two years and willing to run a General Practice clinic in the training period. (See eligibility criteria and application for more details)
  • Updating your knowledge, skills and competencies in General Practice/ Family Medicine
  • ⁠Individual mentorship under a qualified GP to guide you in the course and to improve your career
  • ⁠An opportunity to upgrade your practice/clinic under the guidance of the mentor and assessors
  • Duty leave from the Ministry of Health to complete the clinical appointments
  • An easy payment system to pay the course fee in instalments
  • An opportunity to participate in College activities and to receive privileges from the College as trainee
